Minnesota State University, Mankato is hosting a post-lecture reception with Chief Wilma Mankiller, the speaker at the third annual Carol Ortman Perkins Lectureship Oct. 25.
Tickets to the reception are $25 ($10 for Minnesota State Mankato students). Higher levels of donations are also available. At $200, the donor receives admission to the reception, name recognition in the program and a DVD of Mankiller's lecture.
Additionally, adding $10 to any of the above packages will sponsor a student ticket to the reception. All proceeds go to the Carol Ortman Perkins Lectureship Series in Women's Studies. Past speakers were actress and feminist Kathy Najimy and Publisher Gloria Steinem.
Mankiller is the first female Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation and author of several books including Every Day is a Good Day; Mankiller: A Chief and Her People, and The Reader's Companion to U.S. Women's History.

She has worked on significant tax issues for the Cherokee Nation, helped establish several rural healthcare facilities and served as the first director of the Cherokee Nation Community Development Department. In 1998, President Bill Clinton awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
