The first Habitat for Humanity house sponsored entirely by Minnesota State University, Mankato will be dedicated in a ceremony Saturday, Oct. 28.

Construction of the house, located at 408 Stoltzman Road, began in fall 2005 and involved more than 500 students throughout the year. The family has since moved in and settled into their home, and the formal dedication of the house will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. The public is welcome to attend.

This is the fifth house to be constructed at Habitat Place on Stoltzman Road, and the first to be sponsored by Minnesota State Mankato. The house was a collaborative effort between Minnesota State Mankato and the Mankato Habitat for Humanity chapter. The university's Office of Student Leadership and Service Learning oversaw the volunteer labor force while the Mankato Habitat chapter coordinated areas such as mortgage servicing and fundraising.

The home is occupied by Ahmed Salah, his wife Khadija Sharif and their seven children. Following the dedication ceremony, an open house will take place until 4 p.m.

Minnesota State Mankato has a Habitat For Humanity student organization in which members have participated in building homes across the country.

"We're proud to contribute to all of the projects, but it's especially gratifying to have a Habitat house built under our own sponsorship," said Kelly Meier, director of the Office of Student Leadership. "This is tangible, long-lasting evidence of students making a difference."
