
Minnesota State University, Mankato will graduate 1,531 students during summer-fall commencement exercises Saturday, Dec. 16, in Bresnan Arena of Taylor Center.
Two commencement ceremonies will be held: One at 9 a.m. for the colleges of Allied Health & Nursing, Arts & Humanities, and Science, Engineering & Technology; one at noon for the colleges of Business, Education and Social & Behavioral Sciences. Master's-degree candidates will graduate with the college of their affiliation.
Graduate-level degrees to be presented include 89 master of arts degrees, nine master of fine arts degrees, 16 master of arts in teaching degrees, 145 master of science degrees, one master of science in nursing degree, four master of music degrees, six master of public administration degrees, six master of business administration degrees, 15 specialist degrees and one sixth-year certificate degree.
Awarded at the undergraduate level will be 86 bachelor of arts degrees, 26 bachelor of fine arts degrees, 1,122 bachelor of science degrees, 15 bachelor of science in teaching degrees, one bachelor of music degree, four bachelor of science in electrical engineering degrees, one bachelor of science in computer engineering degree, one bachelor of science in civil engineering degree and 34 associate of arts degrees.
Undergraduate students receiving special recognition include 61 graduating summa cum laude, 174 students graduating magna cum laude, and 165 students graduating cum laude.
Music for both commencement ceremonies will be provided by the Minnesota Valley Brass Quintet (Minnesota State Mankato professors Gerard Aloisio, Tom Giles, Stewart Ross, Dave Schultz and Doug Snapp). Laura King, vice chancellor of finance for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, and Trustee Michael Boulton will greet the candidates.
Speakers for the 9 a.m. ceremony will be graduates Angela Marie Elena Doering (College of Allied Health & Nursing), Bryan Adrian Gerber (College of Arts and Humanities) and Benjamin J. Sandmann (College of Science, Engineering & Technology). Speakers for the noon ceremony will be Kevin James Bender (College of Business), Patricia Lee Kittock (College of Education) and Nathan James Bruss (College of Social & Behavioral Sciences)
A Commencement Brunch for graduates and their families will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lower level of Centennial Student Union. Cost is $12.99 for adults, $6.99 for children ages 4-12 and free for children 3 and under.
