Minnesota State Mankato to graduate 1,711 in spring commencement May 12

Minnesota State University, Mankato will graduate 1,711 students during spring commencement exercises Saturday, May 12, in Taylor Center.

Graduate-level degrees to be presented include 81 master of arts degrees, 19 master of fine arts degrees, nine master of arts in teaching degrees, nine master of business administration degrees, seven master of public administration degrees, one master of music degree, six master of science in nursing degrees, 158 master of science degrees, 21 specialist degrees and one sixth year certificate.

Awarded at the undergraduate level will be 111 bachelor of arts degrees, 33 bachelor of fine arts degrees, six bachelor of athletic training degrees, 1,276 bachelor of science degrees, ten bachelor of science in civil engineering degrees, four bachelor of science in computer engineering degrees, nine bachelor of science in electrical engineering degrees, 19 bachelor of science in mechanical engineering degrees, one bachelor of science in social work degree and 29 associate of arts degrees.

(The number of graduates does not equal number of degrees because some students earn more than one degree.)

Undergraduate students receiving special recognition include 125 graduating summa cum laude, 241 students graduating magna cum laude and 223 students graduating cum laude.

More than 1,200 students are expected to participate in the three commencement ceremonies May 12.

Ceremonies will be at 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. in Bresnan Arena of Taylor Center. Students in the colleges of Arts & Humanities and Science, Engineering & Technology will take part in the 9 a.m. ceremony; those with the colleges of Allied Health & Nursing and Education will participate in the noon event; and students in the colleges of Business and Social and Behavioral Sciences will be graduated in the 3 p.m. ceremony.

Master’s-degree candidates will graduate with the college of their affiliation.

Music for the three ceremonies will be provided by the Minnesota Valley Brass Quintet (Minnesota State Mankato faculty members Gerard Aloisio, Stewart Ross and Doug Snapp; emeriti faculty member Tom Giles; and alumnus Dave Schultz).

 

The graduates will be greeted by Mary Jacquart, director of government relations for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, and David Paskach, chair of the Board of Trustees.

 

Student speakers for the 9 a.m. ceremony will be Alison Mary Hansen, College of Arts & Humanities, and Eric John Raymer, College of Science, Engineering & Technology. Speakers for the noon ceremony will be Andrea Lauren Valberg, College of Allied Health & Nursing, and Heidi Jo Nistler, College of Education. Speakers for the 3 p.m. ceremony will be Emily Rachel Toot, College of Business, and Tamara Lynn Bell, College of Social & Behavioral Sciences.

The 2007 spring commencement total of 1,711 is up from 1,665 who were graduated a year ago in spring commencement 2006. In December 2006 an additional 1,531 students were graduated during summer-fall commencement exercises.
