More than 150 alumni of Mankato State Teachers College are expected to revisit their old stomping grounds and reminisce about their college days during a first-ever MSTC all-class reunion Friday, July 13.

The reunion will celebrate the university’s early history and the contributions of alumni who graduated from the teachers college (from 1921 through 1957).

Sponsored by the Minnesota State University, Mankato Alumni Association, the day-long event will bring graduates from as long ago as 1934 and as recently as 1957, and from as far away as California to just down the road. They’ll come to Mankato to swap stories and tour the modern-day Minnesota State Mankato.

After the tour, participants will travel back in time with a picnic lunch at the old “lower campus,” where the former Cooper and Daniel Buck halls have been transformed into Colonial Square Apartments, and where the college’s original classroom building – Old Main – has become Old Main Village.

Following lunch, participants will return to campus where they can participate in several interest sessions, hearing about such topics as new learning opportunities for today’s students, Minnesota State Mankato’s new doctoral program, personal wellness and estate planning. Attendees will also have the chance to visit Andreas Observatory or take a tour of Trafton Science Center.

They’ll also be able to view an exhibit of historic college documents and memorabilia, and they’ll meet with faculty, administrators and coaches to learn about extended learning, lifetime career development, athletics, challenges to education and other topics.

The reunion will conclude with a CSU Ballroom banquet and program.

“So many folks have told us they are looking forward to reminiscing with their college classmates and seeing what their school has become,”said Cynthia Abrams, 1986 alumna and director of alumni relations and special events. “Historically, this generation of alumni has been a driving force for change, while supporting the university in many ways as it has grown.”

“As current stewards of the university, we’re excited to meet this group who has contributed much to the rich history, reconnect them with each other and capture their stories. For those who haven’t yet registered, there’s still time to sign up.”

Mankato Normal School was founded in 1868 and became Mankato State Teachers College in 1921. In 1957 it was renamed Mankato State College, and in 1975 it became Mankato State University. The school was renamed Minnesota State University, Mankato in 1999.

Teachers College graduates who wish to register for the event may do so by calling (507) 389-3235. More information is at http://www.mnsu.edu/alumni/events/mstc.html
