President Richard Davenport announced that David Williams, vice president for University Advancement, has been named vice chancellor for university advancement and marketing at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Williams, who joined Minnesota State Mankato in 2003, will begin at UW-Stout on Nov. 26 as one of three vice chancellors reporting to UW-Stout Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen. He will oversee the alumni and foundation offices and the polytechnic university’s marketing efforts.

“I have appreciated Dave’s counsel as a member of my Cabinet and have great respect for the leadership that he has demonstrated within the University Advancement Division. Everyone at the University wishes him success as he returns to his Wisconsin roots,” said Davenport.

At Minnesota State Mankato, Williams leads the University Advancement Division and the Minnesota State Mankato Foundation.

Under Williams’ leadership, annual gifts to the Minnesota State University, Mankato Foundation grew from an average of $2.7 million to $4 million, and the Foundation’s endowment more than doubled. Under his direction, the University also started the quiet phase of a new capital campaign, launched a highly successful Twin Cities branding campaign, and created effective new alumni engagement programs.

From 1981 until 1990 Williams directed development and alumni services at Stout, raising annual, capital and planned gifts. He coordinated Stout’s first capital campaign, increased alumni participation, and helped create the Stout Technology Park.

From 1990 until 2003 he worked at Ripon College, Wis., as vice president for development and, for one year, as interim president.

Williams is one of 25 college and university administrators nationwide who will be 2007-2008 Fulbright Scholars in the U.S.-Germany International Education Administrators Program. He will take part in the Berlin program from Oct. 28 to Nov. 10.

A national search for Williams’ replacement will start immediately, Davenport said.
