Police said a young woman died after a night of heavy drinking in Mankato.
Amanda Jax was a former Minnesota State University student.
"She was at the top of our class in high school, extremely smart, just accepted into nursing program, always there for her friends," said Erin Salonek.
Jax lived in Mayer and traveled to Mankato Monday night to celebrate her 21st birthday with friends she had attended college with.
"She was always caring, always willing to give someone a hug, make you smile or laugh," said Gina Emon.
Police said Jax was taken to an off-campus apartment after becoming intoxicated.
Hours later, her friends found her unresponsive.
Jax’s mother told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that her daughter was troubled. Jax’s family was devastated by the news.
"Pray, pray and be with my friends, be with people who knew her and cared about her," said Emon.
