President Richard Davenport will tour two-year colleges over the next several months, assuring students that they’ll be able to transfer seamlessly to Mankato after they earn their associate’s degrees.

Davenport’s tour – the first of its kind for a Minnesota university president – will start on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Riverland Community College, Austin.

Davenport and other administrators will meet with Riverland President Terrence Leas and Riverland students to solicit suggestions for simplifying the transfer process.

“For many years we have enjoyed partnerships with excellent institutions such as Riverland Community College,” Davenport said. “It is my hope that through my visits we can partner even more closely, ensuring smooth transitions by degree-holders from Riverland and other colleges to Minnesota State Mankato.”

“An increasing percentage of two-year college graduates seek to transform their two-year associate’s degrees into bachelor’s degrees,” Davenport added. “We need to do everything possible to simplify the transfer process for these students.”

Minnesota State Mankato enrolled approximately 1,000 new transfer students for the fall 2007 semester – 70 of them from Riverland. Davenport wants to increase that number as the university seeks to grow its enrollment from 14,500 to 20,000 in the coming years.
