President Richard Davenport has named Michael Miller, dean of the University’s College of Education, as interim vice president for University Advancement.
Miller will become interim vice president on Tuesday, Nov. 20, replacing David Williams, who on Nov. 26 will become vice chancellor for university advancement and marketing at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
Miller will provide leadership for Minnesota State Mankato’s Advancement Division, overseeing the offices of development, alumni relations and special events, integrated marketing and the University Foundation. As interim vice president, Miller also will serve on the President’s Cabinet.
“Dr. Miller brings a strong record of senior leadership and management experience to this position, as well as fund and friend-raising experiences,” Davenport said. “His enthusiasm and energy will serve the University well.”
He has been dean of the Minnesota State Mankato College of Education since 2003. Before that Miller served in various administrative and teaching positions at Gustavus Adolphus College, and before that was a professor at Minnesota State Mankato. He also served as director of special education and school psychologist in several Minnesota and Indiana secondary schools.
Miller holds an Ed.S. and a Ph.D. in school psychology from Ball State University.
His appointment is effective during the national search for a permanent vice president. Davenport expects that candidates for the permanent position will be interviewed in late February. Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Scott Olson expects to begin the process for appointing an acting College of Education dean soon.
