If you are an entrepreneur with an idea, are already in business and want to show off your product, or wouldn’t mind giving some advice to would-be business owners, the E-Fair is the place for you.
The best of area entrepreneurship will be on display Thursday at the Minnesota State University. It is hosted by the College of Business and the Riverbend Center for Entrepreneurial Facilitation.
Part of the event is dedicated to 36 students competing for scholarships provided by alumnus Jay Abdo. The competition focuses on business plans students developed for a class assignment. Most of the students are juniors and seniors majoring in business. Their ideas will be on display Thursday and their plans judged with the scholarship winners announced at the end of the evening.
Bryan Stading, facilitator of the center, said the second annual event is also a place where anyone with an idea or business can come.
“We put this on to help spotlight entrepreneurs in the area and to bring them information and support,” Stading said.
Anyone who wants to display at the event can call Stading at 386-7285 to get a free spot at a table. “One guy is bringing in a corn-burning stove, that’s his business. Whatever you want to highlight is OK. We want every entrepreneur in the area a chance to show off their product or service.”
Stading said having those who’ve already gone through a business start-up present can give students a source of advice and motivation. “ We want to hook up the students with business people.”
Several speakers will also provide small breakout sessions during the event.
