Minnesota State Mankato will host a series of speakers and special events in February to observe and celebrate Black History Month.

The month-long observance started Feb. 1 and continues through Tuesday, Feb. 26.

Public radio station KMSU 89.7 will air “jewels” of black history during the entire month. Black history literature will be displayed in Memorial Library and Barnes & Noble Bookstore, and the Market, on the first floor of Centennial Student Union, will offer special food items during the month.

Jumpstart and the African American Affairs program will co-sponsor a children’s literacy project and a pre-school book drive, collecting books for children in Jumpstart. Those who wish to donate books may leave them throughout the month at designated drop-off points in Centennial Student Union; books should be new or slightly used and pre-school/elementary appropriate.

The month also includes the 32nd annual Pan African Student Leadership Conference Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 21-23, with a pre-conference event Wednesday, Feb. 20. The conference builds student leadership, and allows scholars, students, professionals and community members to discuss issues that affect African people.
