A community 'speak-out' to commemorate the life of Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan's first female prime minister who was assassinated last year, will be held nkato Wednesday, March 26.
The open forum will be from 7-9 p.m. in Rooms 284 A, B and C of Centennial Student Union. The event, part of Women's History Month, is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the public. Refreshments will be served.
Bhutto served as prime minister from 1988 to 1990 and from 1993 to 1996. She was assassinated on Dec. 27, 2007.
The forum will include an overview of Bhutto's life and work, and a discussion of her significance as the first female prime minister of a Muslim nation. Participants will be invited to express their views about her importance as a woman world leader, a promoter of democracy in Pakistan, and a leading Muslim woman.
The event will close with a short video mourning her death and commemorating her life and work.
This event is sponsored by the Kessel Peace Institute, the Department of Women's Studies, the Women's Center and the Pakistan Student Association.
