TO THE EDITOR:

The MSU athletic department was hard at work the last couple of weeks. Hosting the NCC basketball championship, NCAA North Central wrestling regional, the WCHA hockey playoffs and the NCAA National Indoor Track and Field championships all within two weeks is no small feat.

I am tournament sales director for Greater Mankato Convention & Visitors Bureau.

These events produced an estimated economic impact of over $500,000 in our community. Most of these events were held here because of the success of MSU athletes, but the national track and field championships were the result of a competitive bid and many months of intense planning by the MSU athletic staff and track and field coaches.

Not only were we fortunate enough to see some great athletic events over the last month, but we are also able to benefit from their significant impact to our community.
