After a successful college career capped by a year as the student body president, Chris Frederick is ready for his next challenge: more politics.

Come July 15, Frederick’s name will be among those filing for Mankato City Council Member Mike Lavin’s at-large seat.

Frederick says events that had great impact on the MSU community — the alcohol deaths and ensuing summit, and the economic impact study — put him in a unique position to interact with area city and business leaders.

“There seems to be some disconnect between those relationships,” he said.

He says his experience, combined with the fresh perspective he’ll bring, make him a viable candidate.

“I love the community and I have strong family ties to the area,” the graduate-to-be said. “It’s really that feeling you get when you come to a community and you feel embraced.”
