Minnesota State Mankato alum Glen Taylor has a history of giving back to his alma mater, and today  at the Taylor Center he continued his philanthropy, giving the School of Nursing a very generous gift.

In the building bearing their name, Glen and Becky Taylor announced their donation of seven million dollars to the MSU Nursing program.

Glen Taylor says "It elevates the university. I don't see (the Nursing applied doctorate) as the first or last or second or whatever doctorate program (at Minnesota State Mankato). But I see that there are going to be other ones that come along, and it sets the example."

The money will help establish a Nursing faculty chair, a new Nursing Institute for Family and Society, as well as several doctoral fellowships. Projects the school hopes will attract scholars from around the world.

Dr. Sandra Eggenberger says, "Becky Taylor Fellowships will support (doctoral candidates') work with us here in the school of nursing. As they do their scholarly projects, as they take coursework with us. As the doctoral students go through the curriculum we will support their efforts here."

And school officials say the Taylors are prime examples of how that support works both ways.

Scott Olson, MSU Vice President of Academic Affairs: "The involvement that our alums have in this university is really what connects our current students to their own future. I think it's a measure of how the alumni of this university care about us -- that they do keep giving, that they are staying involved. And this Taylor gift is just another example of that."

And according to Taylor it won't be the last.
