Minnesota State Mankato will celebrate its new 7700 France satellite site in Edina with a public grand opening ceremony and tours on Thursday, Sept. 25.

At 7700 France, Minnesota State Mankato offers upper-division classes leading to undergraduate degrees, as well as masters degree opportunities. In partnership with Minnesota State Mankato, nearby Normandale Community College also offers classes at the site. Students completing two-year degrees at Normandale can earn undergraduate degrees in selected programs through the institutions’ two-plus-two partnership.

Thursday’s grand opening, free and open to everyone, will start at 1 p.m. It will include refreshments, a 7700 France flag-raising, a program with comments by university and city officials, and tours of 7700 France’s classrooms, meeting rooms, office spaces, common spaces and arboretum-style cafeteria.

Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Trustee Vice Chair Ruth Grendahl, Chancellor James McCormick, Minnesota State Mankato President Richard Davenport, Normandale Community College President Joe Opatz and Edina Mayor James Hovland are among the officials who will take part in the ceremony.
The satellite site opened last month, serving 300 students. Officials expect enrollment to grow to 2,000 in the next three years.

7700 France, with plentiful free parking and quick access to I-494 and a major Metro Transit bus route, fits the busy schedules of working professionals. Classes are offered primarily in the afternoon and evening, taught by Minnesota State Mankato faculty from the School of Nursing and the colleges of Education, Social & Behavioral Sciences and Arts & Humanities. A full-time executive director oversees site operations.

Students can get undergraduate degrees in speech communication, creative writing, elementary education, special education and secondary education in partnership with Normandale Community College, and graduate degrees in public administration, corrections, human services administration, special education and community health at 7700 France.

Minnesota State Mankato, founded in 1868, has 14,500 students, 1,700 faculty and staff and more than 106,000 alumni. The university’s six academic colleges offer more than 150 undergraduate and 100 graduate programs of study, including doctoral degrees in nursing, education and counseling.
