Caty Delwiche to be remembered Oct. 11 with plaque, stone marker, tree

The Athletics Department will memorialize former Maverick women’s cross country team member Caty Delwiche on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Minnesota State Mankato's Athletics Department will memorialize former Maverick women’s cross country team member Caty Delwiche on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Caty, a freshman member of the women’s cross country team last fall, was on a training run when she was struck and killed by a vehicle on Oct. 2, 2007.

In addition to the Caty Delwiche Memorial Open men’s and women’s competitions Saturday morning, the university will unveil a plaque on the west wall outside of Myers Field House. A tree will be planted and a memorial stone marker will be placed at the accident site near the Mankato Church of Christ.

Caty’s parents, Jeff and Michelle Delwiche, will serve as honorary captains at the MSU football game vs. Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday (1 p.m. start).

Saturday's schedule:

10 a.m.: Caty Delwiche Memorial Open - Men’s Race (Land of Memories)

10:30 a.m.: Caty Delwiche Memorial Open - Women’s Race (Land of Memories)

11:30-11:45 a.m.: Plaque dedication (Myers Field House)

Noon-12:25 p.m.: Tree-planting, site marker dedication.
