A seminar for health professionals who must deal with anxiety disorders will be offered Thursday, Nov. 6, at South Central College, North Mankato.
Minnesota State University, Mankato and South Central College will co-sponsor the event. Registration begins at 8 a.m.; the program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
While some anxiety is normal, prolonged and intense anxiety may lead to crippling physical or psychological symptoms. The course will cover Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Disorder and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
The program is intended for all allied health professionals who work with individuals affected by anxiety. It is intended to benefit social workers, nurses, chemical dependency counselors, program directors, job coaches and direct care staff.
Karen Finck, an expert in psychiatric nursing and president of Health Counseling Services, will present the program. She lectures throughout Minnesota on management, professional development and mental health topics.
The course offers 6.6 contact hours for RNs and LPNs, and six CEHs for social workers. Other professionals will receive a certificate of attendance.
Preregistration deadline is Thursday, Oct. 30. Cost to attend is $79 and includes materials, lunch, a continuing education certificate and a free temporary parking pass at South Central College.
Registration after Oct. 30 will cost attendees $84, and will be granted on a space-available basis.
