Prose writer Steve Almond to be featured Oct. 30

Steve AlmondBoston writer Steve Almond will be featured in the third fall 2008 Good Thunder Reading Series residency at Minnesota State Mankato Thursday, Oct. 30.

Almond is the author of two story collections, "My Life in Heavy Metal" and "The Evil B.B. Chow"; the novel "Which Brings Me to You" (with Julianna Baggott); and the non-fiction book "Candyfreak." His new book, "Not That You Asked," is a collection of essays.

During the first part of his visit, Almond will visit with individual writers and be interviewed on KMSU-FM. At 3 p.m. in Ostrander Auditorium of Centennial Student Union, he will lead a discussion on the craft of writing. At 7:30 p.m. in CSU 253, he will read from his published work. All events are free and open to the public.

An interview with Almond, part of the “Authors in Transit” series on public radio station KMSU 89.7 FM, will air on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m., and on Friday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m.

The Good Thunder Reading Series is funded by the Department of English, the College of Arts & Humanities, the Office of Institutional Diversity, and the Nadine B. Andreas, Eddice B. Barber Visiting Writer and Robert C. Wright Endowments, as well as individual donors. It is made possible by a grant from Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council (funds appropriated by the Minnesota Legislature and the McKnight Foundation), and a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board (legislative appropriation and National Endowment for the Arts grant). Library Services and the Barnes & Noble Bookstore provide additional assistance.
