Westin Automotive, a major employer in St. James, has laid off more than two hundred people over the past year and half. Now community members are taking action, and some MSU students are adding to their experience by helping out.

As communities throughout the nation look for ways to get their towns through the rough economy, they're looking for ideas everywhere: Including a brochure the St. James Economic Development Authority hopes will attract new businesses to town.

"The EDA is always, whether it's in this current turbulent economic state or any other time, we're always looking for new business opportunity here in St. James," Molly Westman says. "With that being said, of course right now we're looking even more."

The brochure is being put together by the MSU Urban Studies class and South Central Colleges Graphic production students.

And with the town reeling from big layoffs, St. James feels it has something to offer prospective entrepreneurs.

St. James mayor Gary Sturm says "We have a well-established workforce that's here and trained and available immediately for a new business coming into town."

An advantage that may be shared by more towns than anyone would prefer.
