NEW YORK -- While America’s top Division 1 college football teams square off in nearly two dozen bowl games, the top intramural flag football teams in America – including a team from Minnesota State University, Mankato -- will travel to New Orleans from Dec. 28-31 to compete in the 2008 Slingbox ACIS Football National Championships -- the largest collegiate football program in the nation.

More than 1,500 students from over 100 colleges and universities from around the country are expected to participate.

The Minnesota State University, Mankato team, known as Dutch Masters, earned their trip to the national championship competition by finishing second at the Regional Championship Tournament held in November at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The team includes Tyson Coleman, Joseph Erickson, Andre Lipsey, Ryan McCauley, Logan Oellien, Joshua Robertson, Kyle Schlesser, Rob Stoner, and Jesse Westphal.

The 2008 Slingbox ACIS Football National Championships is taking place Dec. 29-30 at Lafreniere Park in Metarie, Louisiana, with the national title games being played December 31 at Pan American Stadium in New Orleans City Park. These championships are the culmination of a program that began with 200 schools hosting on-campus Slingbox ACIS Football leagues throughout the fall semester. There were over 250,000 ACIS Football participants competing in over 100,000 games.

Following the regular season, teams from across the country competed at one of four Slingbox ACIS Football Regional Tournaments at; University of West Florida, University of Nebraska; Western Kentucky University, and UNC-Wilmington. The top two teams in each of the three collegiate divisions (men’s, women’s and co-rec) earned expense-paid trips to the New Orleans tournament. The National Championships are an open event, so collegiate intramural teams from across the country can attend, even if they do not compete in the regional tourneys.
Fox College Sports will air a 30-minute television highlight show featuring action from the tournament, personal video diaries with some of the team’s road trip and highlights of the group’s experiences in New Orleans. For details about the show visit www.ACISports.com.
