Andreas Endowment, art department to present James Elkins, senior shows

James Elkins, E.C. Chadbourne Chair of the Department of Art History, Theory and Criticism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, will give a public lecture Monday, March 23, as part of the Andreas Endowment and prelude to Minnesota State Mankato senior student shows.

James Elkins, E.C. Chadbourne Chair of the Department of Art History, Theory and Criticism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, will give a public lecture Monday, March 23, as part of the Andreas Endowment and prelude to Minnesota State Mankato senior student shows.

Elkins’ lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in the Centennial Student Union Ostrander Auditorium. The event is free and open to all students, faculty, staff and the public.

Elkins received a PhD in Art History from the University of Chicago in 1989. His writing focuses on the history and theory of images in art, science and nature. Some of his books focus exclusively on fine art, and others focus on scientific and non-art images, writing systems, archaeology and natural history.

In addition to the Elkins’ presentation, the Minnesota State Mankato Department of Art will host three shows to honor senior students.

The first senior show will be Monday, March 23, through Monday, March 30, with a reception Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. The second show will be Friday, April 3, through Friday, April 10, with a reception Monday, April 6, at 7 p.m. The final senior show will be Thursday, April 16, through Thursday, April 23, with a reception Monday, April 20, at 7 p.m.
