Retired Air Force pilot and former Boeing 767 captain Thomas Peterson will be the keynote speaker at Minnesota State Mankato’s 2009 Aviation Alumni Banquet Saturday, April 25, at the Mankato Regional Airport.
Peterson, an aviation faculty member at Minnesota State Mankato, will discuss his piloting experiences, including common mistakes made by pilots. Learning about potential errors helps pilots-in-training increase their awareness and safety procedures.
A non-alcoholic social hour will begin at 5 p.m. in the North Star Corporate Hangar, with dinner served at 6. Peterson’s talk and a program will be presented from 6:30-8:35 p.m. Alumni, current and prospective students, faculty and staff, parents and the public are invited to attend.
Scholarships and internships earned by Aviation students will be announced as part of the program. Representatives of the Aviation Club, Alpha Eta Rho, Flight Team and Women in Aviation will explain the missions of their clubs.
Minnesota State Mankato offers a bachelor’s degree in Aviation with concentrations in Professional Flight and Aviation Management. The degree focuses on professional flight (careers as airline pilots) and aviation business and management¸ and allows a properly flying-rated student to become a flight instructor with North Star Aviation after completing North Star requirements.
Banquet tickets are $10 for students and family members and $20 for alumni (includes $10 donation to the scholarship fund). Those interested in attending should register by April 17 at (507) 389-6116 or karla.worden@mnsu.edu.
