Alan Gerhardt, chief operating officer of Kraus-Anderson Construction, will receive the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award Friday, April 24.

Gerhardt, of Minnetonka, Minn., is one of 12 alumni who have been named 2009 award winners. He will be honored at an April 24 dinner and ceremony hosted by the Minnesota State Mankato Alumni Association.

The Alumni Achievement Award goes to graduates who have achieved high rank or honor in their professions, and have made a major impact on their communities.

A 1980 business administration and construction management graduate, Gerhardt joined Kraus-Anderson and began managing major construction projects across the country, including the 20-story Lincoln Center hotel in Dallas; the 533,400-square-foot Gaviidae Common shopping center in Minneapolis; and the 40-story Dain Rauscher Plaza office tower in Minneapolis. He also provided oversight for more than 100 medical projects and $1.3 billion in Metropolitan Airports Commission construction.

He became vice president, then senior vice president, then executive vice president and, most recently, chief operating officer of Kraus-Anderson. He also leads Kraus-Anderson’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and Sustainability initiatives.

Gerhardt credits Construction Management Professor Emeritus Carl Egan for much of his success. “Carl taught me that I could do anything that I set my mind to,” he says. He has been active on Minnesota State Mankato’s Construction Management Advisory Board, Rotary and his church’s building committee.
