H. Dean Trauger, retired vice president for finance and administration at Minnesota State Mankato, will receive the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Fitterer Service Award Friday, April 24.
Trauger, of Mankato, is one of 12 alumni who have been named 2009 award winners. He will be honored at an April 24 dinner and ceremony hosted by the Minnesota State Mankato Alumni Association.
The Fitterer Service Award goes to graduates whose efforts have preserved, promoted and supported Minnesota State Mankato.
Trauger served the university for 37 years, working there even before he graduated in 1969 with a business administration major.
In 1967, as a student, he served as a student grants accountant in the Business Office. After graduating he joined the university full-time, and in 1974 was promoted to director of business affairs.
He served as interim vice president for resource management from 1978-1980, and in1988 he was named vice president for fiscal affairs (later finance and administration). In 2006 he was named special assistant to President Richard Davenport, and in 2007 he retired from the university.
At the university he created an atmosphere of excellence that was recognized by numerous MnSCU awards for financial and facilities management excellence. He also twice received the system’s outstanding service award.
He is a former member of the Minnesota State Mankato Foundation Board and supports Theatre and Dance programs, the College of Business and academic scholarships.
