Minnesota State University, Mankato student Holly Bjorklund will receive the $5,000 Jewell L. Taylor National Undergraduate Scholarship from the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences later this month.
The association awards one scholarship each year to a student who exhibits high potential to make contributions to the family and consumer sciences profession.
Bjorklund, of Nicollet, Minn., will receive the award at a ceremony during the association’s 100th annual conference and expo June 25-28 in Knoxville, Tenn. In addition to the $5,000 scholarship, she is eligible for up to $1,000 to renew her association membership and for expenses to attend the annual conference.
Jewell L. Taylor, creator of the scholarship, was a dedicated, long-time county home economist who encouraged enthusiasm and pride in the profession. She believed that membership and participation in the American Home Economics Association and her state home economics association were essential to a developing career.
The association is the only national, not-for-profit organization providing leadership and support to family and consumer sciences students and professionals across multiple practice settings.
Minnesota State Mankato is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, which comprises 32 state universities, community colleges, technical colleges and combined community and technical colleges located on 54 campuses across the state.
