Minnesota State University, Mankato is lifting its suspension of academic programs in Mexico, effective immediately. The decision results from the Centers for Disease Control’s revised travel recommendations regarding H1N1 flu virus.
Minnesota State Mankato cancelled its Mexico foreign-study programs in April, after the U.S. Department of State and Centers for Disease Control recommended that Americans avoid nonessential travel to Mexico.
The university will continue to advise all outbound students about health and safety techniques before departure. If the situation in Mexico or any other nation worsens, students may be called back home on short notice from their study abroad destinations.
“We will closely monitor the flu situation around the world to see if and when the situation might warrant action on behalf of the university,” said Caryn Lindsay, director of international programs at Minnesota State Mankato.
Minnesota State Mankato is a doctorate-level university with 14,700 students. It is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, which comprises 32 state universities, community colleges, technical colleges and combined community and technical colleges located on 54 campuses across the state.
