Basketball, soccer, football and track and field for K-12 students will be featured during the Dr. Betty Young Youth Sports Camp and Clinic Saturday, June 27, at Minnesota State Mankato.
The free camp, sponsored by the Minnesota State Mankato Athletic Department and the Office of Institutional Diversity, will be in Meyers Field House from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is dedicated to long-time Minnesota State Mankato Family Consumer Science professor Betty Young, who died in February.
The camp aims to help young athletes improve current skills, learn new skills, and learn positive mental and physical values. Participants will receive fundamental instruction from coaches and athletes, as well as assistance in improving problem areas discovered during drills and games.
Registration is free, and lunch will be provided at no cost to the student. Parents are welcome to attend portions or the entire camp. Free parking is available on campus. Participants should bring a T-shirt, comfortable shoes to wear, athletic shoes, a water bottle and a snack.
To register, students or parents should call assistant track coach Michelle Oman at (507) 389-5906. Students and parents also may register from 9-10 a.m. the day of the event outside of Meyers Field House.
Those who want more information also may contact Oman at michelle.oman@mnsu.edu.
Minnesota State Mankato is a 14,700-student doctoral university with satellite sites in Edina and Owatonna. It is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.
