Three members of the Robinson family — daughter Terah (left), father Terry (center) and son Toby — will compete in today's North Mankato Triathlon.
For years, the Robinsons have been the unofficial first family of swimming in Mankato.
Grandfather Don Robinson was a swim coach for more than 20 years of the Minnesota State University program, father Terry Robinson and his wife, Connie, have been involved as officials and coaches with the Mankato Swim Club for parts of three decades.
Daughter’s Terah and Samarah were both six-year varsity swimmers at Mankato West and son Toby also competed at West, qualifying for the state tournament his senior season.
Combined, their hours in or beside a local pool are too numerous to count. Today, however, the Robinsons are branching out. Three of them — Terry, Toby and Terah — are competing in the annual North Mankato Triathlon as individuals.
They’ll all be swimming, but they’ll all be bicycling and running, as well. “I guess we thought it would be fun to do as a family,” dad Terry Robinson said. “I did it two years ago, and Toby has done it the last two summers. This will be the first time for Terah.”
