Student Christopher Frederick appointed to MnSCU Board of Trustees

Chris FrederickMinnesota State University, Mankato student Christopher Frederick has been appointed to the Minnesota State College & Universities Board of Trustees by Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

Frederick will serve as a state university student member in a two-year term that expires June 30, 2011. He replaces Allyson Lueneburg on the Board of Trustees.

“I’m delighted that the governor has appointed Chris to the Board of Trustees, and that he, as one of our alums and a current student, will represent all two- and four-year students to the board,” said Minnesota State Mankato President Richard Davenport. “Chris was one of our most engaging, charismatic and energetic student body presidents, and I know those attributes will serve him well in his newest leadership position. I look forward to working with Trustee Frederick.”

“I am very excited about the opportunity,” Frederick said, “and I look forward to getting started as a trustee.”

Frederick, of Mankato, is working toward a master of science degree in engineering at Minnesota State Mankato. He earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Minnesota State Mankato in 2008.

A 2007-2008 president of the university’s Minnesota State Student Association, Frederick is recent past state chair and interim executive director of the Minnesota State University Student Association. Before serving as Minnesota State Mankato student body president, Frederick was a student senator from the College of Science, Engineering & Technology.

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system is governed by a 15-member board of trustees appointed by the governor. The board has policy responsibility for system planning, academic programs, fiscal management, personnel, admissions requirements, tuition and fees, and rules and regulations.

The board appoints the system’s chancellor and presidents of the state colleges and universities. The system comprises 32 colleges and universities, including 25 two-year colleges and seven state universities.
