Several speakers on campus in September

Several speakers scheduled on campus Thursday and Friday.

The com­mencement of another fall semester has brought along with it another fall of speak­ers and lectures at Minnesota State Mankato.

Whether your thing is languages, history, current events or culture, there are plenty of events to choose from at MSU.

  • Michael Seidman, pro­fessor of history at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, will give present “ Spanish Socialist Idealism: The posters of the Republican Zone during the Spanish Civil War” at 3: 30 p. m. today with discussion to fol­low. It takes place in Armstrong Hall room 101. On Friday he’ll speak at 10 a.m. in CSU room 201. That talk is titled “ The Posters of May 1968 in Paris.”
  • Lama Shenpen Drolma will discuss “ Enduring Change: Transforming Hope and Fear” during a 7 p.m. lecture Sept. 23. The lec­ture, in Centennial Student Union Room 284, is spon­sored by the Kessel Peace Institute, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, College of Arts and Humanities and the Philosophy Department.
  • The Native Nations Conference takes place all day Friday in MSU’s student union room 253, 254 and 255 (registration required). Shawnee Hunt will present “Education and Identity of American Indians” at 10 a.m. At 11:15 a.m. is “From the Rez to Success” by Shirley Cain and Valerie Larsen. At 1:30 p.m. Angela Ward and Paula Cleveland will discuss the history of the Ho-Chunk people.
  • Renowned philosopher of biology Alex Rosenberg will discuss Charles Darwin and Darwinian evolution in two Nadine B. Andreas Philosophy Department lec­tures today and Friday. Rosenberg’s talk today takes place in room 121C of Trafton Science Center. His Friday talk, “ Must Naturalism be Nihilistic?” will be at 11 a.m. in Morris Hall 102.
