Mankato now has a new resource for serving the mental and educational needs of our area, courtesy of Minnesota State Mankato.
News 12's Lisa Cownie takes a look at the impact and importance of the university's new Psychology Doctoral and Clinical Center.
The center is a multi-use facility housing the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. But despite its two classrooms, four clinical research labs and seven faculty offices, it's what happens beyond its walls that will make a difference in the community.
Barry Reis says, "We also hope to be able to help the community with education. We now have space that we can bring in small groups in order to do staff trainings, a place where school psychologists can meet, and to look at ways we can offer education and cutting edge information."
The university already has a high profile in Mankato, but this latest addition will open even more doors.
Mr. Reis says, "One of the unique things about this program is it is one fo the first Psy. D. programs in the state. So we are the first doctoral program in the state and MNSCU system."
Previously psychology students had to use space in the basement of Armstrong Hall. Graduate student Katie Fairchild says the new space will make her life easier.
The space, located in the privately-owned University Square complex, was dedicated today in honor of University Square owner David Peters, who is donating leasing of the space for the next five years. In Mankato.
