The world-acclaimed Rose Ensemble will perform in concert and offer a vocal clinic Thursday, Oct. 22.
The group – called “the Twin Cities’ most daring and imaginative vocal ensemble” by the St. Paul Pioneer Press – will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Halling Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center.
In addition, director Jordan Sramek will offer a vocal clinic with the Minnesota State Mankato Chamber Singers from noon to 12:50 p.m. Oct. 22 in Performing Art Center 109. The clinic will explore vocal style, performance practice and ensemble techniques to enhance the interpretation of diverse vocal music repertoire.
Both events are sponsored by the Minnesota State Mankato Department of Music and funded by the Nadine B. Andreas Artists in Residence program.
Rose Ensemble musicians are renowned for singing as an ensemble and as soloists, and Sramek has been lauded for diverse programming and ground-breaking research.
Praised for “an almost supernatural blend of voices” by “Early Music America” magazine, the ensemble has produced seven critically acclaimed recordings and a diverse selection of concert programs, including several that receive international airplay and international praise.
In 2005 the group received the prestigious Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence. In 2007 it won first place in the sacred music category of the Tolosa International Choral Competition in Spain.
The group has thrilled audiences across the United States and Europe, with repertoire spanning 1,000 years and more than 25 languages, including Hawaiian, Swedish, Mexican and American vocal traditions. The ensemble soon will launch two more European tours, with appearances in northern Italy and an extensive performance schedule in France.
Admission is $15 and $10 for students with a valid MavCard. Department of Music officials strongly encourage advance purchase of tickets. Those who wish to purchase tickets online may go to www.mnsu.edu/music/. Those who want concert information may call the Performance Series office at (507)-389-5549.
