Thumbs up to the way the H1N1 flu clinic was handled by local health professionals and volunteers.

Health officials, community volunteers and Minnesota State University did a top-notch job running one of the largest mass vaccination clinics in the state Dec. 19 at MSU’s Taylor Center.

When 400 people were lined up by 9:30 a.m., the clinic opened a half hour early. Many people had no waiting for a shot, others a few minutes here and there.

Volunteers and medical professionals were friendly, courteous and understanding. Young and old alike were served very well.

These kind of clinics can be chaotic, sometimes through no fault of organizers. Larger than expected crowds can show up at busy times.

But whatever the crowds were at the clinic, they were handled. Two huge positives come from this event: About 5,000 people were vaccinated and that should go a long way toward reducing the spread of H1N1 flu. The smooth operation of the clinic also gave the general public confidence not only in the competency of the medical community, but also confidence to participate should this kind of vaccination clinic be needed again.
