Immigration law, the history of Somali Day and father-son relationships will be discussed at the 34th Annual Pan African Student Leadership Conference Feb. 24-27.

An opening-day pre-conference Feb. 24 will discuss the history and future of Somali Day, which is the 24th.

“Pan African Challenges and Solutions to World-Wide Problems” is the theme of the conference, which is intended to build student leadership and to allow scholars, students, professionals and community members to discuss issues that affect African people locally, nationally and internationally.

Keynote speakers will be announced next month.

More than 1,000 students, faculty and members of the public attended last year’s conference, hearing and asking questions of Mahmoud El Kati, Rev. Chike Akua, Harry “Spike” Moss and other speakers.

The conference was founded in 1977 by long-time Minnesota State Mankato diversity leader Michael Fagin, with support from Macalester College faculty member Mahmoud El Kati and community leaders throughout southern Minnesota. The event is sponsored by the Office of Institutional Diversity and other University and community groups.
