Ten Minnesota State Mankato faculty and staff members will be honored at the second annual Global Citizen Award ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 11.
The reception and ceremony will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Heritage Room of the Centennial Student Union. The Global Citizen Award recognizes faculty, staff and students who have made a major contribution to globalization efforts at the university.
Linda Good from the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education will be recognized for her contributions in supporting cross-cultural understanding and international institutional partnerships.
Karl Heise from the Department of Modern Languages is being honored for 36 years of service in overseeing Spanish study-abroad programs.
Basil Janavaras from the Department of Marketing and International Business will be honored for sharing his Greek homeland with students and colleagues on regular spring and summer programs for many years.
John Janc of the Department of Modern Languages will be honored for introducing French language students to Parisian culture and the French coastal city of La Rochelle for more than 30 years.
Linda Meidl from the College of Business will be honored for setting high standards for her special service to international exchange students coming from overseas.
Faculty and student recipients of J. William Fulbright scholarships from the U.S. Department of State are also among those being honored. Fulbright faculty honorees include:

• Kathryn Elliott, Anthropology
• David Laverny-Rafter, Urban and Regional Studies
• Lee Tesdell, English
• Jacqueline Vieceli, International Relations
Currently, Minnesota State Mankato hosts five graduate student Fulbright grantees from Mali, South Africa, Syria, Turkey and Vietnam. Aycha Tammour in Physics and Bekir Canli in Teaching English as a Second Language will receive international scholar stoles to be worn at the May 2010 graduation ceremony.
