Dr. Claire E. Faust, who worked for Minnesota State University, Mankato from 1962 to 1987, died Monday, Feb. 8 at age 89 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato. Plans for a memorial service are pending.
Dr. Faust, who grew up on a farm near Winterset, Iowa, served in many capacities during his 25-year tenure at Minnesota State Mankato, including faculty member in the Department of Educational Administration, assistant vice president for academic affairs and vice president for administrative services. He held a bachelor’s degree from Central College, a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota and a doctorate from the University of Iowa.
Faust was active in many community organizations, including the Mankato Kiwanis Club, Circle K International at Minnesota State Mankato, Mankato City Council and Blue Earth County Environmental Committee. An award named after him was established at Minnesota State Mankato to recognize a university employee for outstanding public service.
