Roger White Owl left Minnesota State University, Mankato several years ago a student.

He came back Wednesday as a distinguished lecturer.

White Owl delivered the Truman Wood Lecture Wednesday, named after the well-known retired professor who had established a scholarship fund for students studying political science. Wood died earlier this year.

Now an administrator for the Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota, White Owl spoke before a student-packed Ostrander Auditorium at Minnesota State University.

His talk focused mainly on the political history and struggles of American Indians.

White Owl, who served as student body president while at Minnesota State Mankato, also spoke briefly about Indian gaming. Several questions from the audience addressed the topic, and White Owl said gaming, for the most part, has been a boon to American Indians.
