Mankato’s Fourth of July fireworks display can’t be staged at Minnesota State University, Mankato this year because renovations are being made to the Blakeslee Stadium field.
The free display has been held on the university campus for several years, with spectators watching from the 7,000-seat stadium. But crews are re-grading the field this summer, and the entire facility is a construction zone. Spectators won’t be allowed into the stands until late July, when construction is complete and the Minnesota Vikings Training Camp begins.
For many years the display has been funded in part by the City of Mankato, with support from Mankato area businesses and sponsored by Greater Mankato Growth. Last year Greater Mankato Growth ended its sponsorship, but Minnesota Valley Broadcasting/Radio Mankato stepped up to sponsor the event.
For most of those years Minnesota State Mankato has made Blakeslee Stadium available as the viewing site.
Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive, doctoral university with 14,950 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system, which comprises 32 institutions across the state.
