Students in Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Information Systems & Technology Department are performing real-world software development and testing as interns for Mankato-based data management provider FPX, LLC.
“Project FPX” employs three student interns at $12 per hour to develop and test software – similar to the highly successful “Project Maverick” partnership that started four years ago and pays student interns for software development and testing for Thomson-Reuters.
The three-year FPX contract dedicates $157,148 for student salaries.
Project FPX director and Information Systems & Technology faculty member Michael Wells says the student interns will be employed by Project FPX for one to two years. When they graduate, they will be replaced by new interns.
Wells expects the project to continue “long after the initial three-year contract.”
“FPX, LLC, has a long tradition of partnering with Minnesota State Mankato,” he points out. “In addition to the staff augmentation provided by Project FPX student interns, FPX, LLC has hired five Minnesota State Mankato graduates from the Information Systems & Technology Department over the last year.”
