Keri Noble, a piano-driven singer whose passion and penchant for living life on her own terms radiates from her music, will perform Sunday, Oct. 3.
The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Elias J. Halling Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center.
A Washington Post review noted “Shear intensity, along with her vocal hoarseness, evokes the personable style of Melissa Etheridge. Even at quiet volumes, Noble still sings from her gut.”
After growing up in an environment where secular music was forbidden, Noble was inspired by Joni Mitchell’s "Blue," to find her own voice in songwriting. After relocating from Detroit to Minneapolis, her demo brought her attention from world-famous producer Arif Mardin, and a deal with EMI/Manhattan Records. Because the label focused more on promoting her outside of the United States, she toured Asia and Europe to support her debut release, "Fearless."
Her 2009 self-titled Telarc release brought her more national success, including a song on "Grey's Anatomy" and an appearance on CBS's "The Early Show." More national attention came in 2009 when Kelly Clarkson recorded her song, "If No One Will Listen," and included it on her Grammy-nominated album "All I Ever Wanted."
“I still don¹t know how it all happened,” Noble says jokingly. “I’m just happy it did.”
"When It Don’t Come Easy" is her third, full-length studio release. The CD contains heartfelt, raspy vocals, songs that tell stories of love lost and found, and themes of self-awareness and empowerment, all accompanied by hook-heavy, sparkling piano parts. What sets this release apart from the rest, however, is the fact that she produced the album and is releasing it on her own label, KikoSaysSo Music.
Concert admission is $12. University students with a valid MavCard can purchase tickets online for $11, and advance purchase is strongly encouraged. Those who wish to purchase tickets online should visit the Music page.
