Four students to perform three recitals Oct. 31, Nov. 6

Four Minnesota State Mankato students will present voice, saxophone and flute recitals Sunday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 6.

Four Minnesota State Mankato music students will present voice, saxophone and flute recitals Sunday, Oct. 31, and Saturday, Nov. 6.

The recitals, sponsored by the Department of Music, will be in Halling Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center. The recitals by McCune, Thorstad and Carrels are part of their bachelor of music education studies. Wagner’s recital is part of his bachelor of music requirement. The recitals are free and open to students, faculty, staff and the public.

On Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. soprano Samantha McCune and mezzo-soprano Laurie Thorstad will perform two duets by Offenbach and Brahms and solos by Brahms, Fauré, Schubert, Handel and Gershwin. McCune and Thorstad are choral education majors and are students of Diana Moxness. They will be accompanied by pianist Vonnie Elker.

On Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. saxophonist Benjamin Wagner will perform classical and jazz works from contrasting eras. Wagner, a music performance major, is a student of Paul Moxness.

On Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. flutist Christina Carrels will perform works by Bach, Rutter, Debussy and Hindemith. She will be assisted by tenor saxophonist Elliott Bonner and pianists Bonnie Jorgensen and Amy Chin. A jazz combo including guitarist Johnathan Moeller, vibist Justin Tollefson, bassist Eric Zimmerman and drummer Dylan Steiner will join Carrels for her final piece. Carrels is a student of Emily Sapa.

Wagner presents his recital in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Bachelor of Music Performance degree.
