Linguist, philosopher and political dissident Noam Chomsky’s award-winning documentary “Manufacturing Consent” – about propaganda and the media – will be viewed and discussed at Minnesota State Mankato Monday, Nov. 1.
The viewing and the ensuing panel discussion, at 7 p.m. in Ostrander Auditorium of Centennial Student Union, is sponsored by Epochè: Intellectual Discussion & Action, a new Minnesota State Mankato student organization. The event is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the public.
Considered one of the fathers of modern linguistics, Chomsky is institute professor and professor emeritus of linguistics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The author of more than 150 books, he also is widely known as a political dissident.
His 1992 documentary “Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media” argues that corporate, profit-driven media tend to serve the agendas and interests of society’s dominant, elite groups.
Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive, doctoral university with 15,393 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system.
