Works of Frederic Chopin will be performed by pianist Horacio Nuguid in a Thursday, Nov. 11, concert.
Nuguid, who has inspired listeners in Asia, Europe and North America with what critics describe as “digital precision, elegance and beautiful tone,” will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Halling Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center. Nuguid’s pieces will include a set of etudes, mazurkas and the “Sonata in B minor.”
Nuguid was born in Manila, Philippines, and at age 14 began formal music training at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music. He studied piano with Milagros de Ocampo and later with Stella Goldenberg Brimo. At age 18 he earned top prize at the National Music Competition for Young Artists, and since has won numerous national and international commendations.
He served as a faculty member at the University of Northern Iowa and Rochester Community College, and when he returned to Manila in 1998, his concert performance there confirmed him as one of the foremost Filipino pianists.
He is a music teacher in Rochester and a clinician at the Young Artist World Piano Festival at Bethel University in St. Paul. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Santo Tomas, a master’s from the University of Northern Iowa, and a DMA from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.
