John A. Sokolowski, the world’s leading authority on the use of modeling, simulation and visualization to create real-world solutions, will speak at Minnesota State Mankato Wednesday, Nov. 10.
Sokolowski’s lecture, sponsored by the Minnesota Modeling & Simulation Center at Minnesota State Mankato, will be at 3:30 p.m. in Ostrander Auditorium of Centennial Student Union. The event is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the public.
Sokolowski, executive director of the Virginia Modeling, Analysis & Simulation Center at Old Dominion University, will discuss “Modeling and Simulation: A Tool for Innovation.” He will explain how modeling, simulation and visualization spur innovation and provide significant economic stimulus.
Minnesota State Mankato’s new Modeling & Simulation Center is the first of its kind in the Upper Midwest. The multi-billion-dollar modeling and simulation industry is the subject of a bipartisan congressional caucus and is expected to be of increasing importance to world business and commerce.
Sokolowski is a retired submarine commander and former top modeling and simulation director for the U.S. Armed Services Joint Forces Command. He was the first person in the world to earn a doctorate in modeling and simulation.
He recently published two books, “Principles of Modeling and Simulation: A Multidisciplinary Approach,” and “Modeling and Simulation for Analyzing Global Events.”
Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive, doctoral university with 15,393 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system.
