Commencement ceremonies for summer-fall graduates will proceed as scheduled on Saturday, Dec. 11, at Minnesota State University, Mankato. University officials do not expect that the 9 a.m. and noon ceremonies in Bresnan Arena will be cancelled due to weather.
All college receptions planned for graduates are also scheduled to be held.
University officials suggest that guests of graduates who need to travel to Mankato may want to arrive today (Friday). Information about local hotels is at http://www.mnsu.edu/graduation under “general information.” As of Friday morning rooms were still available in Mankato.
City of Mankato public safety officials may close Stadium Hill road (the west entrance to campus) early Saturday morning. Visitors are advised not to use Stoltzman Road and the Stadium Road west entrance to reach campus. Visitors instead should use Warren Street, Val Imm Drive or the Stadium Road east entrance to reach campus.
Signage will be posted near West High School and at the intersection of Riverfront Drive and Warren Street to direct visitors who are entering campus from the west.
Friends and loved ones of graduates who cannot attend may view the ceremony live online at the graduation website (http://www.mnsu.edu/graduation). Friends, loved ones and graduates also may purchase a DVD of the event by going to the graduation website and clicking on “graduation supplies and gifts.”
Students who decide not to participate in Saturday’s ceremony may choose to walk during spring commencement May 7, 2011. The Minnesota State Mankato Office of Alumni Relations & Special Events will tell graduates how they can arrange to do this.
If Saturday’s commencement must be cancelled, messages will be posted at www.mnsu.edu and on the graduation website, and area media will be notified.
