Science fair attracts high school projects across region

Students test windmill blades, art of nail-pounding at regional science fair.

Published in The Free Press, Mankato, MN [2/20/2011]

Students tested everything from the efficiency of windmill blades to the amount of force it takes to hammer a nail into various wood types in the hopes of impressing judges at the South Central/Southwest Miinnesota Regional Science and Engineering Fair Saturday at Minnesota State Mankato.

Dressed in their Sunday best, students studied notes and prepared answers to questions as they sat waiting for judges. None of them knew exactly what would be asked, but all of them would have to demonstrate their knowledge to place well in the contest.

Participants gave oral and written statements about their project and their applications in addition to being judged by people in various fields of expertise.
