Minnesota State University, Mankato Media Relations Office News Release [4-4-11]
Minnesota State Mankato’s Standeford Observatory is open to the public for spring viewing on clear Thursday evenings in April from 9-11 p.m.
The public is invited to visit the observatory on April 7, 14, 21 and 28. Objects that may be seen include Saturn, the moon, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies and colorful binary stars. (If the sky is not sufficiently clear at observing time, the public viewing session will not be held.)
Visitors should park at the south end of Gage parking lot No. 1, walk through the pedestrian gate, and follow the road south to the observatory. Visitors with special needs should contact the Accessibility Resources at 389-2825.
If weather makes viewing uncertain, visitors may phone Standeford Observatory at (507) 389-6208 to inquire about sky conditions. A sign on the pedestrian gate also will indicate whether the observatory is open.
