Ask any current or former student leader at Minnesota State Mankato about Mike Hodapp, and you’ll probably get this reaction.
First, they’ll smile, then go on and on about what a great guy he is and how wonderful he is to work with.
Then, tell them Mike’s retiring and watch that smile turn into a frown and possibly tears, and maybe, outright sobbing.
OK, that last part may be an exaggeration. But the fact remains: Hodapp, who has been associated with Minnesota State Mankato in some way since the mid-1960s — as dean of student fees for most of that time — has decided to call it quits.
“When you’re in college, you’re at that age where you have a lot of passion and you want autonomy and independence,” said Randy Wanke, former Student Senate president and communications manager for Pioneer Hi-Bred. “And Mike had that institutional knowledge. He knew how to share it with you and knew how to do it in a way that was useful.”
