U.S. Department of Agriculture rural development expert Naomi Lenz will discuss the agency’s business, energy and economic development grant programs Friday, April 22, at Minnesota State Mankato.

The brown-bag lunch event, sponsored by Minnesota State Mankato’s Modeling & Simulation Center, will be from noon to 1 p.m. in Morris Hall Room 112. It is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the public, and participants are invited to bring their lunches.

USDA’s rural development office seeks to improve the rural economy and quality of life with grants that support water and sewer systems, housing, health clinics, emergency service facilities and electric and telephone service.

The department supports loans to businesses through banks, credit unions and community managed lending pools, and offers technical assistance and information to agricultural producers and cooperatives.

Minnesota State Mankato, a comprehensive, doctoral university with 15,393 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system, which comprises 32 state institutions.
